Bengaluru, Feb. 16 -- A political slugfest erupted in Karnataka with the Congress questioning the transparency and registration status of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP hitting back, triggering a bitter and personal war of words between the two parties.
The controversy began after Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge raised questions regarding the legal registration, financial disclosures and functioning of the RSS, asking whether an organisation operating nationwide should not be subject to statutory scrutiny.
Responding sharply, Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa accused the Congress of deliberately targeting the ideological mentor of the BJP for political mileage.
