Shamli, Oct. 18 -- A dreaded criminal with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, Mohammad Nafees, was killed in a police encounter early today morning in Bhavisa village, Shamli district.
Acting on a tip-off, the police launched an operation and cordoned off the area. When asked to surrender, Nafees opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory action in which he was shot.
Nafees was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. According to police, he had been on the run for the past three years and was involved in over 34 criminal cases, including murder, robbery, and dacoity.
He hailed from Khail locality in Kandhla village, and his father's name is Mohammad Mooda.
