Maharajganj (UP), Sept. 8 -- A notorious cow smuggler and a wanted criminal was today arrested in an encounter during a joint operation by the police and SWAT team in Maharajganj district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said.
Police sources said that Salim, who was wanted in the case registered under the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act and Animal Cruelty Act, was absconding for a long time.
"In the wee hours the police received information that he was going from Puraina Parataval to Chapiya," they said.
Police sources said that, acting on the tip-off, the Shyamdeurwa police, along with the Bhitauli police and SWAT team, cordoned off the area near Baswar village.
