Thiruvananthapuram/Alappuzha, July 23 -- The funeral procession of former Kerala Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader V.S Achuthanandan was significantly delayed as tens of thousands of people lined the roads to pay their last respects.

The procession, which began from Thiruvananthapuram yesterday afternoon, was still en route to Alappuzha due to the overwhelming public turnout that turned it into a moving tribute to one of Kerala's tallest political icons.

Though the distance from Thiruvananthapuram to Alappuzha is just 127 km with an average travel time of around 3 hours by road, the funeral procession, which began from Thiruvananthapuram yesterday, has still not reached Alappuzha.
