Shillong, Nov. 18 -- Meghalaya's Opposition party, the Voice of the People Party (VPP), on Tuesday demanded an independent inquiry into the implementation of MLAs' schemes in the state.

In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, VPP President and legislator, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit urged the government to immediately set up the probe and begin examining projects sanctioned since 2008, starting from his Nongkrem assembly constituency and subsequently to be followed by other assembly constituencies.

Basaiawmoit said he was responding to the CM's recent remarks expressing concern over irregularities in the execution of MLA schemes, especially in constituencies representing by members belonging to the opposition party.
