Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 -- Vizhinjam International Seaport, which handled its first container ship on July 11, 2024, has handled 8,30,000 containers in a year Kerala Ports Minister V.N. Vasavan said today.
"Over the past year, 392 ships have arrived at Vizhinjam. Among them were 23 ultra-large container ships (ULCS), including the MSC Irina, one of the largest container vessels in the world. Several of these ships, including the Irina, berthed in India for the first time," the Minister added.
As Vizhinjam proudly celebrates its first anniversary today. Meanwhile construction of the second phase - estimated to cost over Rs 10,000 crore is set to start soon. Vizhinjam is poised to become the gateway to India's maritime dominance.
