Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 23 -- Vizhinjam International Seaport has set a new national benchmark by berthing the deepest draft container vessel ever handled in India, underscoring its rapid rise as the country's premier maritime hub.

The vessel, MSC Verona, with a draft of 17.1 metres, berthed at the port in the early hours of Tuesday, surpassing the previous Indian record of 17 metres. The call was doubly significant as it also marked the 500th vessel handled at Vizhinjam since the launch of its commercial operations in December 2024.
