Kolkata, May 19 -- Visually impaired woman mountaineer from Himachal Pradesh, Chhonzin Angmo and Kolkata Armed Police Constable Laxmikanta Mondal on Monday scaled Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak.

They scaled the peak at around 8 30 AM, making it a red letter day in India's mountaineering history,

Kolkata Police on its X handle said Mondal, part of the security detail of Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, made the summit 8849 around 8-30 AM along with Angmo and Geeta Samota with professional sherpas Tenzing Sherpa Gelba) and Lakpa Sherpa of Pioneer Adventure of Nepal.

Angmo (28), a village girl from Kinnaur district, lost her eyesight at the age of eight.
