Bengaluru, Sept. 5 -- Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa today mounted a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government for its move to scrap Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and revert to ballot paper voting, describing it as a retrograde step that threatens the integrity of India's democratic process.

In a strongly worded statement, Vijayendra said the Congress, instead of strengthening democratic institutions, was attempting to roll back decades of electoral reforms that had safeguarded free and fair elections.

"The Congress wants to take Karnataka back by 50 years. This is not a reform, but an assault on democracy," he charged.
