Kannur, Feb. 25 -- Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said Kerala earned global recognition for Ayurveda medical treatment but noted that inadequate scientific research has hindered its growth, while inaugurating the International Research Institute of Ayurveda (IRIA)" built on 300 acres at Kalliyad near Iritty.
He said Ayurveda stagnated during British rule and, despite the presence of skilled negative physicians, failed to progress with time. Vijayan added that the lack of research led to the loss of valuable traditional knowledge and alleged that sections of the modern medical community have fostered negative perceptions about Ayurveda.
