Shimla, Dec. 12 -- The family of four-year-old murder victim Yug Gupta has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Himachal Pradesh High Court's September 23 judgment that commuted the death sentences of two convicts and acquitted the third.

Family sources told UNI that Yug's father, Vinod Gupta, has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the apex court, which has been accepted for hearing.

The case, which shook Shimla in 2014, saw the district and sessions court convicting Chandra Sharma, Vikrant Bakshi, and Tejinder Pal on September 5, 2018, awarding all three the death penalty for kidnapping, torturing, and murdering the child.

The conviction was based on more than 100 witness testimonies and a 2,300-page CID charge sheet.
