Kolkata, Sept. 27 -- As the nation prepares to remember the "Nightingale of India" on her birth anniversary on Sunday, veteran impresario Tochon Ghosh revisited his memories of Lata Mangeshkar, recounting her hesitant foray into Bengali music and her quiet, self-effacing nature.

In a tete-a-tete with UNI, Ghosh disclosed how hesitant Lataji was while singing her first Bengali track, "The first Bengali song she ever sang, 'Aakash Pradip Jwale' (1965), was composed by my pishemoshai (uncle), Satinath Mukhopadhyay. Although she was already a celebrated artiste in Bombay, she was extremely tense about singing in Bengali for the first time.
