Mumbai, Oct. 2 -- Veteran Gandhian, freedom fighter and socialist thinker Dr Gunvantrai Ganpatlal Parikh, popularly known as GG Parikh, passed away in Mumbai on Thursday at the age of 101. He breathed his last at his residence on Grant Road. His demise coincided with the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a leader he deeply revered throughout his life.

Born in 1923, Dr Parikh turned 100 on December 30, 2023. He was among the last of the freedom fighters of his generation. A medical practitioner by education, he took part in India's freedom struggle, the Goa Liberation movement, the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, and also stood firmly against the Emergency.
