Madrid, March 26 -- Former Real Madrid, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso has extended his contract with Celta Vigo until the end of June 2026.

The 34-year-old has been a vital part as Celta looks to qualify for Europe next season, playing 1,889 minutes in 22 La Liga matches, a total only beaten by goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, defender Carl Starfelt and Spain international Oscar Mingueza. Celta's Director of Sport, Marco Garces, celebrated the news, explaining the defender's contract was automatically renewed because he had played a stipulated number of games.
