Chennai, March 14 -- The much awaited passenger train services on the elevated Velachery-St Thomas Mount Phase-II MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) rail section was commissioned on Saturday.
The new train services on the stretch was wholeheartedly welcomed by the commuters who said their long felt need was fulfilled as it would significantly reduce travel time.
Southern Railway officials said the Chennai Division of Southern Railway has received the provisional authorisation certificate from the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) for the commissioning of the Velachery - St. Thomas Mount Phase-II section of the MRTS and the train services were thrown open to public from today.
