Dehradun, Oct. 10 -- Uttarakhand has earned the dubious distinction of leading the Himalayan states in possession of illegal firearms. This was revealed in the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report 2023 released online recently.
According to NCRB report, 1767 cases were filed in the state for illegal firearm possession in 2023. Of these, 1,184 individuals were apprehended with illegal weapons and only fourcriminals possessed licensed (legal) weapons. This was the largest figure of possessing illegal firearms in an. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and northern Himalayan state. Furthermore NCRB report says that Uttarakhand holds seventh position nationally for in keeping firearm possession.
