Dehradun, Oct. 4 -- The Uttarakhand government has launched a rigorous campaign against banned drugs in the wake of children's deaths linked to cough syrup consumption in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Today, the state banned syrups containing dextromethorphan and medicines with the combination of chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine hydrochloride for children under four years, following guidelines issued by the Centre.

Acting on the Centre's advisory regarding banned cough syrups and other medicines, and following instructions from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Health Department directed all Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) to ensure strict compliance, keeping the safety of children and public health as the top priority.
