Uttarakhand, Aug. 29 -- Several houses and families were reportedly trapped under debris in the Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts today in the wee hours following two big cloudbursts in the region. This was confirmed by Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who prayed for the safety of the victims.

The chief minister said the rescue operation was launched by the local police and the District Disaster Management Authority while State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams were on the way to launch a search and rescue operation in disaster-hit areas.
