Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 26 -- A political row has erupted ahead of the local body elections in Thiruvananthapuram after former DGP R Sreelekha, now contesting as a BJP candidate, was accused of using her retired "IPS" title in campaign-related communication.
Critics allege that featuring the designation in public platforms and materials gives her an undue advantage by invoking the prestige of her former post, and they argue that it goes against the spirit of electoral neutrality expected from retired civil servants entering politics.
Sreelekha, who served for more than three decades in the police force and became Kerala's first woman IPS officer, is the BJP nominee in the Sasthamangalam ward.
