Washington, Aug. 22 -- The US Space Force has launched into orbit its shuttle X-37B space plane from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, according to a SpaceX broadcast.

The launch took place late Thursday.

In late July, the US Air Force announced it had been preparing to lift off the space plane on its eighth mission in order to demonstrate cutting-edge laser-based communications. The mission will also test an advanced, GPS-free navigation system based on quantum inertial technology.
