Washington/Gaza City, Dec. 20 -- The US has reportedly sent a sweeping proposal for the reconstruction of the war-torn Gaza, envisioning its transformation it into a high-tech, luxury coastal hub over the next two decades to potential donor countries behind closed curtains.
The project, which would cost US$112 billion over the first 10 years, was developed by a team led by US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff over the past 45 days, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.
Under the proposal, Washington would initially "anchor" the programme with US$60 billion in funding, while expecting Gaza to begin self-financing parts of the project as reconstruction progresses.
