Washington, June 4 -- The US Senate on Tuesday approved the nomination of Michael Duffey to serve as undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment.
The candidacy was confirmed in a 51-46 vote, with three senators not voting.
During US President Donald Trump's first term, Duffey served as associate director for national security programs at the Office of Management and Budget.
His nomination as the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer in January triggered criticism from Democratic lawmakers over his alleged role in Trump's withholding of funding to Ukraine in the summer of 2019.
The move to freeze military aid to Kiev was at the heart of the House's first impeachment of Trump in December 2019.
