Chennai, Oct. 16 -- The world's largest commercial communications satellite destined for Low Earth Orbit (LEO), BlueBird 6, arrived in India today from US ahead of its launch aboard the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) heaviest LVM3 rocket.
Weighing approximately 6,500 kg (6.5 tons), the BlueBird 6 satellite--developed by U.S.-based cellular broadband provider AST SpaceMobile--landed at Chennai International Airport today morning.
It was transported aboard the Antonov, the world's largest cargo aircraft, originally built in Ukraine.
An ISRO official confirmed that the satellite is expected to reach the launch site in the spaceport of Sriharikota by Friday/Saturday following customs clearance.
