Washington, March 13 -- The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on four charities accused of secretly financing the militant group Hamas, targeting what officials described as a covert international network used to funnel money to the group's armed wing in Gaza.

The US Treasury Department said the organizations raised funds under the guise of humanitarian work but ultimately supported the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas responsible for carrying out attacks against Israel.
