Beijing, Aug. 25 -- The United State is pursuing 'beggar thy neighbour policy' vis-a-vis trade tariffs and it would be wise for Washington to wake up and 'smell the coffee'.

The leading newspaper 'China Daily' in its editorial says Chinese government decision to impose fresh 10 per cent and five per cent tariffs on 75 billion dollar of US goods is only as "countermeasures" soon after US levied tariffs on Chinese imports.

"China's tariff list is the result of prudent calculation weighing both the pros and cons.....its impact should not be underestimated given the delicate situation of the US economy."
