Kabul, Aug. 1 -- The United States has proposed that hundreds of Taliban prisoners be transferred to house arrest, after they are freed from Afghan jails, to be placed in a location where they will be under the surveillance of both the Taliban and the Afghan government, TOLOnews reported on Saturday.

This US suggestion, proposed by US diplomats, who are eager to kickstart the intra-Afghan talks, is being seen as a solution to end the deadlock over the prisoner issue that is holding up the peace negotiations.

On the first day of Eid on Friday, President Ashraf Ghani ordered the release of 500 more Taliban prisoners, in response to the group's three-day ceasefire announcement.
