Washington, April 4 -- US President Donald Trump has ordered officials in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to find a way to pay all its employees, as a nearly two-month funding lapse due to a Congressional deadlock has left tens of thousands of workers without pay.

In a memo issued on Friday, Trump instructed DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought to identify funds with a "reasonable and logical nexus" to DHS operations and use them to cover payroll. The directive, however, did not specify where the money would come from or outline a clear legal pathway for reallocating funds.
