New York, Aug. 28 -- World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz powered into the third round of the US Open with one of his most commanding Grand Slam displays, dismantling Italy's Mattia Bellucci 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 in just under two hours at Arthur Ashe Stadium today IST.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who is riding a sensational mid-season run, has now won 41 of his last 43 matches and is chasing an eighth straight tournament final. He will next face 32nd seed Luciano Darderi of Italy.

Alcaraz wasted little time asserting his dominance, racing to a 5-0 lead inside 21 minutes. Bellucci, ranked 78th and a Wimbledon third-rounder earlier this year, briefly lifted the fans with a hold but was undone by mounting forehand errors.
