Islamabad, April 12 -- Iran has rejected the terms of a US-proposed agreement, and the US delegation is returning without a deal, US Vice President J.D. Vance said after talks in Islamabad.

"They have chosen not to accept our terms," Vance told reporters.

He said the key issue for the United States was whether Iran is willing to make a long-term commitment not to develop nuclear weapons. "The question is simple: do we see a fundamental commitment of will for the Iranians not to develop a nuclear weapon -- not just now, not just two years from now, but for the long term? We haven't seen it yet. We hope that we will," he said.

Vance described this as a "core goal" of the US President.
