Washington, Nov. 11 -- The US Senate approved a long-awaited funding package to end the ongoing government shutdown, now entering its 42nd day making it the longest in the country's history.
This brings the Congress a step closer to resolving the political crisis that has paralysed Washington's federal services, damaged the economy, and virtually suspended most of its aviation sector, causing disruptions for millions throughout the country.
The bill will now move to the House of Representatives for a final vote, expected as early as Wednesday, November 12.
