Washington, Nov. 7 -- As the US government shutdown entered its 38th day, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, offering a carrot to his Democrat opponents, said that the GOP is open for another vote, this time pledging concessions, such as swap of the House-passed stopgap bill for a new funding patch, likely into January, along with full-year funding for veterans' programs, food aid and more.

However, Democrats - emboldened by strong election results earlier in the week - signalled they would again block the procedural vote, insisting that any deal must include an extension of expiring health insurance subsidies, a key demand not addressed in the latest GOP proposal, reports Politico.
