Washington, April 3 -- The administration of US President Donald Trump has requested a record $1.5 trillion defense budget for fiscal year 2027, a White House budget document revealed on Friday.

The proposal marks a dramatic 42% increase from the $1 trillion allocated for 2026.

"The Budget builds upon the historic $1 trillion overall Defense topline for 2026 and requests $1.5 trillion in total budgetary resources for 2027. This is a $445 billion or 42-percent increase from the 2026 total resource level," the document said.

The proposed US defense budget for fiscal year 2027 includes a request for 39 new vessels for the US Navy and the Coast Guard, the White House said in a defense spending request on Friday.
