Bahraich, March 3 -- A 65-year-old former village head was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute during a wedding ceremony in Bahraich district, police said today.
The incident took place in Kamla Jot village under the Risia police station area late on Monday night.
The deceased, Magan Bihari Verma, had attended a wedding at a relative's house.
During the event, some youths were bursting firecrackers in the verandah of a man identified as Saeed Ahmad. When Ahmad objected, an argument broke out. Magan Bihari also intervened and scolded the youths for setting off firecrackers in the verandah, which led to a scuffle.
