Jaunpur, Nov. 2 -- An elderly tribal man was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was sleeping at his farm hut in Kadaila village under the Sarai Khwaja police station area of Jaunpur district, police said today.
Police have registered a case against unknown persons and launched an investigation.
According to official sources, the victim, Makhnchu Vanvasi (70), was sleeping alongside his wife in a makeshift hut (pahi) on their farmland around 11:30 pm yesterday when unknown miscreants arrived and shot him dead. Upon hearing the gunshot, his wife woke up and cried for help, but the attackers had already fled the scene. Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing her screams.
