Kaushambi, March 27 -- At least eight people, including five women and three children, were killed and 29 others injured after a pickup vehicle carrying devotees rammed into a stationary trailer today evening.

The accident occurred around 4 PM near Dorma on a national highway in Kaushambi district.

According to officials, the victims were returning to Fatehpur after attending a 'mundan' (head-shaving) ceremony at the Sangam in Prayagraj.

The pickup, carrying around 37 passengers, reportedly lost control and crashed into a trailer parked by the roadside near a petrol pump. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, and several passengers were thrown onto the road, where they lay injured until help arrived.
