Lucknow, July 24 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Rai on Thursday welcomed the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court's decision to stay the merger of a primary school in Sitapur.
He said the Congress Party had been actively opposing the government's move to merge around 27,000 primary schools across the state, calling it a "nefarious attempt" that would deprive underprivileged children of access to education.
Rai criticised the state government, claiming that the proposed school mergers were not only a blow to the education of children from backward and marginalised communities but would also result in the loss of lakhs of jobs, worsening the already critical unemployment situation in the state.
