Lucknow, Feb. 11 -- A serious allegation of police misconduct involving Samajwadi Party Legislative Council Member Ashutosh Sinha has prompted an investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP).
The Chairman of the Legislative Council has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and sought explanations from the officers involved.
The matter pertains to January 25, when Ashutosh Sinha alleged that he was stopped, manhandled, and forcibly taken to a police station by police personnel in Varanasi.
According to Sinha, he was on his way to offer floral tribute at the statue of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad at Chandrashekhar Azad Park in Lahurabir on the eve of Republic Day when police blocked his entry.
