UP govt urges SC to dismiss Rahul Gandhi's plea in Savarkar defamation case
New Delhi, July 25 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's petition challenging the April four, 2025, order of the Allahabad High Court which declined to quash the summons issued against him in a defamation case related to remarks on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
In an affidavit filed before the apex court, the UP government stated that the allegations against Gandhi were supported by investigation findings indicating deliberate spreading of hatred through pre-planned actions.
It asserted that such conduct falls within the category of offences relating to promoting enmity between various groups and public mischief.
