Lucknow, Oct. 22 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the tenure of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman and members of the Backward Classes Commission for one year.

A government order has been issued by the Backward Classes Welfare Department in this regard. The order grants the commission's current office-bearers the right to continue in their positions for a further one year.

The Backward Classes Commission works to advise the state government on the welfare of OBCs, the protection of their rights and policy decisions. The commission's purpose is to ensure the social, economic and educational progress of the backward classes.
