Lucknow, Aug. 23 -- Several major rivers-including the Ganga, Yamuna, Ghaghra, and Sharda-are flowing above the danger mark in many districts across Uttar Pradesh, prompting the state government to declare 43 districts as flood-affected.

According to data released by the UP Relief Commissioner's Office, 2,505 villages have been affected due to floods while over 1.44 lakh hectares of agricultural land have been submerged . A total of 9.29 lakh people have been affected so far.

Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami said that 639 houses have been damaged in various districts due to floods and 606 house owners have been compensated. The government has set up 1,376 flood shelters and 91,105 flood victims have been shifted to the shelters. ...
