Muzaffarnagar, Feb. 8 -- A local court has acquitted 22 accused in the Muzaffarnagar riot case, including a murder and arson in Mohammadpur Rai Singh village in September 2013.

The court acquitted the accused due to lack of evidence after 13 years of the incident.

Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Kanishk Kumar Singh of Court No. 4 pronounced the verdict on Saturday. A total of 15 separate FIRs were registered, which were heard together.

Sub-Inspector Ganga Prasad, posted at Bhaurakalan police station, had registered the case on September 8, 2013. The allegations were that the attackers had attacked the Muslim settlement, committed arson, and vandalised a religious place. The police who arrived at the scene were also attacked....
