Lucknow, Nov. 29 -- Uttar Pradesh achieved a significant milestone on November 27, by achieving 1 gigawatt of solar power under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
According to officials here on Friday this achievement marks the successful installation of solar rooftop plants on 290,000 homes in the state.
The installation of 1 gigawatt of solar power has saved approximately 4,000 acres of land, which can be used for other productive and public welfare purposes.
Officials said a subsidy of Rs 2,000 crore has been provided to the consumers by the Government of India and Rs 600 crore by the State Government on the installed plants, due to which the consumers have got significant financial benefits.
