Lucknow/Varanasi, Jan. 27 -- In a major crackdown on the interstate and international smuggling of codeine-based cough syrup, a special team of the Varanasi Police along with sleuths of Special Task Force have arrested three key members of the gang involved in an alleged racket worth nearly Rs 2,000 crore.

Those arrested include Vikas Singh Narve, a resident of Narve village in Azamgarh and a wanted smuggler carrying a reward of Rs 50,000; Akash Pathak, director of the fake pharmaceutical firm Med Remedy Lifecare Private Limited; and his associate Ankit Srivastava.
