Kanpur, Jan. 13 -- Panic and tension spread in the Bilhaur area of Kanpur after the remains of around 100 cattle were found in a field near a Durga temple on the Gauri-Kutra road.
The incident came to light on Monday evening when villagers noticed pieces of meat, hides and bones about 300 metres from the temple and informed the police.
Following the discovery, workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal reached the spot in large numbers and staged protests. The situation turned chaotic as some vehicles parked along the roadside were vandalized, leading to brief unrest in the area. As the protest intensified, police forces from five police stations were deployed to control the situation.
