Gonda (UP), Feb. 3 -- A criminal involved in bank robbery was arrested in an encounter with the police in Nagar Kotwali area of Gonda district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Saturday.

Superintendent of POlice (SP) Vineet Jaiswal said that on Friday afternoon the criminal held the cashier of Pantnagar branch of Prathama Gramin Bank captive and looted Rs 8.54 lakh. "On the basis of CCTV footage and location when the police team attempted to arrest the accused on Friday night he opened fire on the team," he said.
