Hyderabad, Nov. 25 -- In a breakthrough that blends sustainability with scientific innovation, researchers at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) have successfully developed a method to convert waste Geranium leaves-typically discarded by the essential oil industry-into high-quality biochar capable of improving soil fertility and enhancing plant growth.
The study has been featured in the November 2025 special issue of Biomass and Bioenergy (Elsevier).
The research, titled "Upcycling of Waste Geranium Leaves into Biochar for Soil Amendment," was carried out jointly by teams from the School of Life Sciences (SLS) and the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST).
