Pune, April 2 -- Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon in Pune city and surrounding areas caused faults (tripping) in several extra high voltage (EHV) and high voltage power lines. As a result, electricity supply was disrupted in many parts of the city.

Employees of the power distribution company are working on a war footing to restore the supply.

Within just an hour of rainfall, trees fell on power lines in several places, while in some areas, water accumulation in feeder boxes led to outages.
