Idukki (Kerala), Oct. 26 -- A night of heavy rain turned tragic at Adimali, where a landslide caused by unscientific hill cutting for National Highway expansion claimed one life and left another critically injured, while the timely evacuation of 22 families just before the incident prevented a major disaster.
The deceased has been identified as Biju, who was trapped under the debris of his house after the hillside collapsed around 10.30 pm on Saturday. His wife Sandhya, who sustained serious injuries, was pulled out after a prolonged and perilous rescue effort and rushed to Rajagiri Hospital for specialist treatment.
