New Delhi, May 14 -- The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to set up a new semi conductor unit in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, under the India Semiconductor Mission, in order to give the required push to the programme for development and manufacturing of a robust and vibrant ecosystem.

This unit will help to develop electronic devises, microchips and transistor diodes, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a press conference.

He briefed the media about the decision taken at the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.
