United Nations/New Delhi, May 8 -- UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang has voiced concern over the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan and urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and for an immediate de-escalation.

In a statement, Philemon Yang also called for dialogue and diplomacy "in line with the UN Charter and international laws" to resolve the matter.

His statement read:

"I am deeply concerned about the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan.

"I call for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and for an immediate de-escalation.

"I reiterate my condemnation of all terrorist attacks and attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
